In Chennai, the Ashura conference was organized by the Shia Sunni Unity Movement in collaboration with the Council of India for the Proximity of Religions, in coordination with Hojatul Islam Sheikh Mahdi, Imam of Friday prayers at the Shia Mosque in Chennai
in the presence of famous Indian personalities from different walks of life, including Sikhs, Hindus, Shias and Sunnis. Famous personalities who attended the conference and gave speeches included Sufi Raj Jain, founder of the Sarvo Dharam Khwaja Gharib Nawaz Board and Center in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, Sheikh Tahir from Bahra, Mufti and Judge of Chennai, Sheikh Salahuddin, Judge of Chennai, Minister for Minorities Affairs, Mr. Mustan, and Other personalities
