Taj al-Masjid and Madrasa
One of the largest mosques in India is located in the city of Bhopal. The construction of the mosque was started during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar, Nawab Shah Jahan Begum, between the first (1844 – 1860) and second (1868 – 1901) periods in Bhopal by the wife of Muhammad Khan, and its construction was continued after his death by his daughter Sultan Jahan Begum.
The size and art of Islamic architecture have attracted the attention of the people. The gathering of people in the annual Tablighi Jamaat program was held in this mosque until, due to the large number of people and the scarcity of space, for several years now, a million-strong gathering has been held outside the city of Bhopal in the Int-e-Kahiri area. Inside the courtyard of the mosque, there is a seminary. Its director and manager is Maulana Hassan Nadvi, the head of the Arabic language department of Barakatullah University.
